Calculate The Angular Distance Between Two Planets.
The zodiac is represented as a circle containing 360°. Each of the twelve signs occupies a 30° segment. Aries begins at 0°, Taurus at 30°, Gemini at 60°, and the remaining signs follow in zodiac order.
To calculate a planet's longitude, multiply its zero-based zodiac-sign index by 30 and add its degree within that sign. A planet at 10° Leo, for example, has longitude 130° because Leo begins at 120°.
Next, calculate the absolute difference between the two longitudes. If the difference exceeds 180°, subtract it from 360°. The resulting smaller angular distance lies between 0° and 180°.
The Venus Mars Synastry Calculator compares that distance with the five major aspect angles: 0°, 60°, 90°, 120°, and 180°. An aspect is reported when the difference from its exact angle falls within the selected orb.
For example, Venus at 15° Taurus has longitude 45°, while Mars at 18° Cancer has longitude 108°. Their separation is 63°, producing a sextile with an orb of 3°.

Why Exact Degrees Matter.
Two planets in signs traditionally described as compatible may be too far apart to form a major aspect within a strict orb. Conversely, planets in neighboring signs can form an exact conjunction when one lies near the end of its sign and the other near the beginning of the next.
For instance, Venus at 29° Pisces and Mars at 1° Aries are separated by only 2°, despite occupying different signs.
Why Both Directions Matter.
Person A's Venus compared with Person B's Mars is a different calculation from Person B's Venus compared with Person A's Mars. The positions, angular separations, and aspect classifications may all differ.
A complete Venus–Mars comparison should therefore consider both directions without assuming that one person's feelings or intentions can be inferred from either result.
