A Practical Interpretation Method
Start With Accurate Signs And Clear Expectations.
First, determine whether you know the actual Descendant signs or only the rising signs. If you know the rising signs, select that input method. The calculator will convert each rising sign to its zodiac opposite before comparing the partnership signs.
For example, suppose Person A has an Aries Ascendant and Person B has a Gemini Ascendant. Their Descendants are Libra and Sagittarius respectively. Libra is cardinal air, while Sagittarius is mutable fire. These elements are considered complementary in the calculator's traditional affinity model.
The element score is 85 and the modality score is also 85. Under the balanced method, the calculation is 0.70 × 85 + 0.30 × 85 = 85. The result describes the selected symbolic categories rather than the probability that the relationship will last.
Next, consider the meanings attached to each sign. Libra Descendant symbolism commonly emphasizes negotiation, fairness, and reciprocity. Sagittarius Descendant symbolism emphasizes exploration, candor, and freedom. A traditional interpretation might describe opportunities to combine social cooperation with adventurous growth.
Finally, compare that symbolic description with lived experience. Do both people communicate respectfully? Can they disagree without intimidation? Are their expectations about commitment compatible? These questions provide more actionable relationship information than a sign score alone.
Understand The Limits Of Sign-Only Calculations.
A seventh-house cusp can be calculated from a reliable birth chart, but deriving it accurately from birth details requires astronomical calculations, location information, time-zone handling, and a selected house system. This calculator deliberately does not pretend to perform those calculations.
In quadrant house systems such as Placidus, the seventh-house cusp corresponds to the Descendant. In whole-sign houses, the seventh house is the entire sign opposite the rising sign, while the precise Descendant degree may lie within that house.
The distinction matters when interpreting planets near a cusp or comparing precise planetary aspects. A sign-based tool cannot establish whether Venus is conjunct a Descendant, whether Saturn aspects the seventh-house ruler, or whether planets occupy a particular house.
For more detailed chart work, consult a chart calculator that clearly identifies its zodiac and house systems. The Astro-Seek chart tools can be used to investigate additional planetary and house placements.
Example One
Libra And Gemini Descendants
Both signs belong to air, giving an element affinity of 95. Libra is cardinal and Gemini is mutable, giving a modality affinity of 85. The balanced illustrative score is 92, calculated as 66.5 + 25.5.
The interpretation emphasizes communication, cooperation, and adaptability. It does not establish actual emotional or romantic compatibility.
Example Two
Taurus And Scorpio Descendants
Taurus is fixed earth and Scorpio is fixed water. Earth and water receive an element affinity of 85, while matching fixed modalities receive 90. The balanced score rounds from 86.5 to 87.
The traditional reading highlights persistence, depth, and the need to handle disagreements without becoming inflexible.
Example Three
Aries And Cancer Descendants
Aries is cardinal fire and Cancer is cardinal water. Their element affinity is 55 and modality affinity is 90. The balanced score is 66 after rounding 65.5.
This example illustrates why a single numerical result can hide meaningful differences between the categories being compared.
